Extremadura
Did you know that over 300 species of birds fly over Extremadura throughout the year? And did you know that it is a refuge for some of Europe's most endangered species, such as the golden eagle and the black stork?
In Extremadura not only will you find a wide variety of birds, natural spaces (such as the Monfragüe Nature Reserve and the Cornalvo Nature Reserve ) and recommended routes for ornithology, but you can also attend various events on this theme: the Crane Festival in Extremadura, the Bird Festival in Cáceres, the International Ornithological Tourism Fair, and the International Nature Tourism Film Festival. Come and enjoy one of the most popular destinations with ornithologists and amateur birdwatchers from all over the world.
Rady praktyczne
If you plan to go birdwatching on your own without the help of specialised guides, we recommend you stop by the nearest visitor centres for information about the place and the birds.
You must avoid disturbing the animals, and always keep to the signposted areas.
Depending on the habitat (Extremadura has Mediterranean forests, wooded pastures known as 'dehesa', scree beds, shrublands, grasslands, farmlands, reservoirs and rivers), you'll find various different species of birds.
