This path sets off from the Portuguese town of Barrancos. Like the GR 41, it crosses the north of the Natural Park of La Sierra Aracena y Picos de Aroche to reach the locality of Encinasola, which conserves dolmens from the Bronze Age in its surrounding area.

Due to its location on the border of Spain, it also conserves both castles and churches from the 16th century. The path continues through holm oaks and cork oaks, with beautiful countryside such as the banks of the River Murtigas, to reach Cumbres de Bartolomé. It also passes through the locality of Cumbres Mayores, an old Roman city of celtic origin.The path is witness to beautiful countryside through the sierras of El Viento and El Bujo, before reaching other towns such as Cañaveral de León, in the urban quarter of which there is a strange spring.The path also passes through Arroyomolinos de León, Cala and Santa Olalla de Cala, the last locality in Huelva, before entering Seville, although it is not yet signposted in this province.From the province of Seville is leads into Cordoba through the locality of Hornachuelos, home to the natural park of the same name and one of the most important hunting areas in Andalusia.Along the side of the sierra, the path reaches the locality of Posadas and then Almodóvar del Río, where it enters the heart of Sierra Morena through countryside of enormous beauty.The path then reaches the sierra town of Santa María de Trassierra and, from here, crosses such attractive countryside as the Bejarano stream or La Cuesta de la Traición, before reaching the capital city of Cordoba. It then crosses the dams of the reservoirs of San Rafael de Navallana and Guadalmellato and through the municipalities of Adamuz and Montoro, where the Natural Park of La Sierra de Montoro y Cardeña begins, before reaching the reservoir of Yeguas on the border with the province of Jaén, where a plan is underway to extend it until Despeñaperros.
