One theory is that this board game was invented by the Knights Templar in the 11th century and inspired by the Way of Saint James. According to the Knights Templar, the game began in Logroño. On the ground of this square in Logroño, pilgrims can play a game of La Oca which reconstructs the whole of the Way of Saint James. It has as many squares as there are stages on the route, and the most representative monuments on the Way are shown in the main squares.
