It was designed by the Japanese architect Arata Isozaki and is a real jewel of vanguardist architecture. It has a capacity for 17,000 spectators and its interior holds sporting and cultural events. The Calatrava tower is nearby, its modern design became the symbol of the Barcelona of the Olympic Games.
