Located on the top of a hill 1.5 km from the Costa Dorada, the town of Calafell blends the charm of its historic legacy with its seafaring tradition.
From among Calafell's monumental heritage it is worth highlighting the medieval castle with its walled enclosure, the Romanesque church of Santa Creu, from the Lombardic age -11th century- and with remains of mural paintings in the apse. But tourist facilities are concentrated above all in the old fishing neighbourhood, named La Platja or Marina de Calafell, which has restaurants, hotels, apartments and housing developments. Within the district of Calafell it is also worth visiting the Iberian village of Les Toixoneres (5th to 2nd centuries BC), which is currently known as the Iberian Citadel of Calafell and which has been rebuilt and the atmosphere reconstructed so that visitors can conjure up the civilization which inhabited the area 2,500 years ago.
