  • Sing 'Happy 400th Birthday' to Murillo.

    Seville Museum of Fine Arts

Murillo is undoubtedly on the list of the most famous Spanish painters of all time. From late 2017 to early 2019, Seville will be celebrating the 400th anniversary of his birth with a cultural project that takes in the entire city. Exhibitions, music in iconic locations, tours around sites associated with Murillo, etc.

  • View of the Picasso “Guernica” room at the Reina Sofia National Art Museum.

We love getting in touch with our inner culture vulture at a good exhibition. And we’re in luck, because 2017 is packed full of events. The 80th anniversary of the ‘Guernica’, one of Picasso’s most important works, is being celebrated. The Reina Sofía National Art Museum and the Thyssen Museum in Madrid, as well as the Picasso Museums in Barcelona and Malaga, are all dedicating exhibitions to the artist. You’ll find any event or festival you’re looking for in our Calendar.

  • Ham and omelette tapas

On 16 June 2016, Spain and 20 other countries celebrated this culinary event together for the first time. In 2017 it will be held on 15 June. In the meantime, you can prepare for it on your trip to Spain by sampling tapas, traditional ‘miniature cuisine’ that wins over even the most demanding foodies.

  • Mausoleum of the Lovers of Teruel

Juan Martínez de Marcilla and Isabel de Segura promised each other eternal love… but their story ended in real tragedy. We don’t want to give you spoilers, so the best way to find out how it all finished up is to plan a visit to Teruel this year. It’s a city forming part of the 'Europe in love' network that will be celebrating 'Lovers’ Year' in 2017. Visit the Mausoleum of the Lovers and relive in the streets everything that happened.

  • Feel the spirituality of a Jubilee Year

    The Cross of Caravaca

Jubilee Year is a Catholic celebration that involves the indulgence of sins and there are only seven Perpetual Jubilee Years in the world. Two of them will be held in Spain in 2017. On one hand, Liébana Jubilee Year is celebrated in Cantabria. It has been held since 1512 as it preserves the largest piece of the Cross of Christ. On the occasion, a series of cultural and religious activities are organised. On the other hand, Caravaca de la Cruz in Murcia, also celebrates its Jubilee Year. And it does so with several exhibitions, such as 'Francisco Salzillo and his school', as well as a series of scared music performances in monumental locations, a gastronomy conference, an ultramarathon or a regatta. 2017 will also be the first Santa Teresa Jubilee Year, perfect for getting to know the spiritual figure of Santa Teresa de Jesús.

  • Imagine the siege of Numancia 2150 years ago

    Numancia archaeological site

Have you been to the archaeological site of Numancia in Soria? 2017 is a good year to visit it. Not only because it’s the site that has given us the most information about the old Celtiberian world, but also because this year marks the anniversary of its already legendary site from the Roman Empire, which transformed Numancia into a symbol of the fight for freedom. Besides from visiting the site, this year you will have a range of activities to take your pick from: exhibitions such as ‘Schulten and the discovery of Numancia’, Celtiberian writing workshops, dramatic arts performances, a concert by the Symphony Orchestra of Castilla and León, the gastronomic programme ‘Experiencia Numantina’, the ‘Geocatching Numancia’ car route or the ‘Ruta Bike 72’ route for exploring the mountains by bike.

  • Relive 400 years of history in the Plaza Mayor square in Madrid
