Santiago de Compostela: a land of shellfish
Santiago de Compostela is one of the best places to go if you want to enjoy first-class fresh shellfish. When you taste the scampi, prawns, scallop varieties, mussels, lobsters, crabs… fresh out of the sea, you will be bowled over by their unique and delicious flavour. You can treat yourself in any of the first-rate seafood restaurants which serve the shellfish either steamed or grilled. You will also find traditional taverns (above all in the streets near the city’s famous cathedral, particularly Ruas Franco and Raíña) which are perfect for sampling tapas, and enjoying a few shrimp and crab at a leisurely pace. What’s more, if you ask any native Galician, they will all tell you that the best wine to drink with shellfish is the famous local Albariño.
