Telde is in the northeastern part of the island, sitting on a fertile plain.
This flat stretch of farmland, known as the 'great plain', is heavily cultivated, the main crops being sugar cane, bananas, cucumbers and flowers.
A stroll around the town centre of Telde reveals austere neighbourhoods with historic houses which in years gone by were inhabited by Franciscan monks. The areas of San Juan and San Francisco contain numerous works of art and interesting buildings such as the church of San Pedro Mártir. In the basilica of San Juan Bautista, you can admire the high reredos and the Christ of Telde, created by the Michoacán indians (Mexico).
Another religious building which is worth visiting is the church of La Concepción, which dates from the 19th century.
