La Palma is one of the best places in the world for star gazing. Which is why even children will have a great time as they learn about astronomy. The best place for looking at the sky is at the Roque de los Muchachos Observatory, which during the summer months offers guided tours for groups (advance booking required). The island also has a number of companies that organise astronomy and star gazing workshops for children.
But La Palma offers many more learning experiences for the younger end of the population. For example, at the Jardín de las Aves bird garden they'll be able to see birds from all five continents in free flight, or visit Maroparque to see exotic animals such as kangaroos and crocodiles, as well as several endangered species. Meanwhile, a visit to the Caldera de Taburiente National Park will enable them to learn about volcanoes as, like everyone else, they enjoy a day in the open air at a stunning beauty spot.
