The former Jovellanos Institute, declared a National Monument in 1974, was built in the late 18th century to house the Royal Nautical and Mineralogical Institute. It was renovated by the local council and converted into the Gijón Culture Centre. It has an assembly room, meeting rooms, exhibition rooms, classrooms, workshops, an image centre… It is also the headquarters of the International Spanish-American Book Fair.
