Belangrijkste moeilijkheden:
The way out of Gijón may be a little confusing due to the signposting. Pilgrims should take the route along the Galicia and República Argentina avenues and go through the area around Mount Areo, passing a series of small housing developments until reaching a eucalyptus wood. The stage continues on through the Carreño Valley, Santa Eulalia del Valle, Tamón, Trasona and Avilés. The route is subject to heavy cycle traffic.
Flora, fauna en landbouw:
The most abundant vegetation is the eucalyptus, although there are also chestnuts and oak trees. This is an area with numerous apple trees; its orchards produce a type of apple which is ideal for making cider.
Wide variety of animals such as foxes, otters, badgers, marten and some 180 different species of marine and migratory birds.

Gastronomie en banketbakkersproducten:
The gastronomic specialities include fabada (white bean stew) pote asturiano (a hearty soup), hake, tuna belly, monkfish, sea bass, and butterflied sea bream. Specialities in Gijón include the fish and shellfish soup, and typical sweet tarts and cakes. In Carreño, the sea bass in sea urchin sauce and rape with apple. The most traditional dessert in this area is marañueles (aniseed biscuits).
Rustplaatsen:
Monteana recreational area (Gijón): past Zarracina, take the turn-off towards Monteana, and after a few metres there is a steep and narrow road up to Monte Areo. Follow the signs along the dirt tracks. It has a car park, tables, benches, litter bins, barbecues, sundial.
Monte Areo recreational area (Carreño): in Prendes, take the turn-off to the right towards Guimarán and from here there is a road which leads to the rest area. It has tables, benches, barbecues, litter bins and rustic benches for resting.
Trasona recreational areas (Avilés): there are two, located on the banks of the reservoir: La Presa and Embalse de Trasona. They have all the necessary recreational facilities, including tables, barbecues, children's play area, car park, disabled access, drinking water fountain and a bar.
