Founded by Henry IV, Juan Pacheco, the Marquis of Villena, was commissioned with its protection. Indeed, he had his coat of arms displayed on the unfinished doorway.
The main Gothic chapel houses a beautifully worked, polychromed altarpiece. The church tower, built at a later date, is finished off with Renaissance cresting. The top of the doorway is unfinished. The tombs of the Marquises of Villena enclose the altarpiece on each side. Made of alabaster, these are lavishly decorated in the Renaissance style. Worthy of special mention is the Gothic entrance doorway to the sacristy. Moreover, it has four cloisters: the Porter's Lodge, the Guest's Quarters, the Infirmary and the Main Cloister.
