Tremp, the capital of the Pallars Jussà region of Lleida, is located in a setting shaped by the river Noguera Pallaresa. The natural surroundings offer a great many routes and the opportunity to do all kinds of outdoor activities.
Tremp sits halfway up the Noguera Pallaresa valley, which forms the backbone running north to south of this enclave in the foothills of the Pyrenees. Its territory covers some thirty small rural towns, which makes it the largest municipality in Catalonia.
Its historic quarter, with a medieval layout, has its centre in Plaza de la Creu, site of the City Hall and the church of Santa María de Valldeflors. Also to be seen are several defensive towers which belonged to the city's old wall.
The strategic position of Tremp and the beauty of the landscape in the foothills of the Pyrenees make this town an ideal setting for hiking, mountaineering and other outdoor activities, as well as different types of sailing on the Sant Antoni reservoir.
Tremp stages its festival in honour of Sant Antoni every 19 January, a celebration with agricultural origins which includes traditional dances and tastings of typical local produce.
