We propose the idea of enjoying a trip in a period train plying its way along three routes between Bilbao, León, Gijón, Santiago de Compostela and Ribadeo. This is the La Robla express, a railway line offering a classic décor and modern facilities all designed to enhance the pleasure of travel, and conceived so that travellers can enjoy the beautiful landscapes through its large windows.

The La Robla express offers glamour and comfort during your journey. It has enormous windows so you can admire the countryside while you travel, as well as common recreational areas including saloon cars with permanent bar service, newspapers, library, video library, television, games area, free breakfast buffet, piped music, computers and free Internet connection. What's more, its sleeping cars are completely climatised and have separate bathrooms with hydromassage showers. In order to ensure your undisturbed rest, the train remains stationary at night so that passengers are not awakened by the movement.

During the route, the train stops at cities and places of interest that can be visited with a guide on the coach belonging to the La Robla express. The three itineraries -La Robla itinerary: this is a circular route which departs and arrives in Bilbao (Basque Country) and most of which runs through the region of Castile-León. It has a duration of four days and three nights, and during its stopovers you can visit the Ojos de Guareña karstic complex (day 1), the Valporquero caves and the city of León (day 2), the Romanesque art and architecture of Palencia (day 3) and Espinosa de los Monteros, Medina de Pomar and Balmaseda (day 4). - Jacobean itinerary: this links Gijón (Asturias) with Santiago de Compostela (Galicia) in a circular route lasting four days and three nights. The route, which follows the Way of Saint James, offers the chance to visit places such as Ribadeo (Galicia – day 1), Ortigueira and the cliffs of the Ortegal cape, and the shrine of San Andrés de Teixido (day 2), Santiago de Compostela (day 3) and Mondoñedo and Navia (day 4). - Porta Norte itinerary : this is the shortest route, with a duration of two days and one night. Gijón is the departure and arrival city, and this route includes visits to the historic centres of the towns of Mondoñedo and Ribadeo, the latter with beautiful views over the Eo estuary. Things to remember: -The scheduled visits often offer a deliciously tempting added attraction, in the shape of meals in the restaurants of Spain's Parador hotels, wineries, and in typical restaurants. -You can check timetables, prices and complete itineraries on the official website of the La Robla express. -The train is also a special venue for meetings, workshops and conferences, and has all the necessary equipment for these events.
