Albariño grapevine

Wine-producing area in Green Spain

It extends across the northern part of Spain. It includes wine routes through Rías Baixas and Ribeiro (Galicia), Txacoli (Basque Country) and Bierzo (Castilla and León).

The wines and designations of origin

What are the wines like?: the humid and foggy climate in Galicia makes the area perfect for growing white grapes. The most common grape in the Rías Baixas area is the Albariño, which is used to produce fresh and smooth wines that can be perfectly paired with fish and seafood dishes and sea produce in general.  In inland Galicia, in the areas closest to the river Miño, wines are produced from a mixture of Torrontés, Treixadura and Godello grapes; all of which are white with Ribeiro or Ribeira Sacra designation of origin. In the Basque Country, on the other hand, Txacoli is highly popular. It is a light, fruity, slightly sparkling white wine and has a tart, refreshing edge.    Designations of origin: From the Basque Country: Arabako Txakolina / Bizkaiko Txakolina / Getariako Txakolina. From Galicia: Rias Baixas / Ribeira Sacra / Ribeiro / Monterrei / Valdeorras. From northern Castilla and León: Bierzo.
