The Museum was founded after the death of the art critic José María Moreno Galván, and is located in an 18th-century building that was restored in 1986. At first, the collection consisted of works donated by the artists themselves, including Alfredo Alcaín, Cristino de Vera, Marta Cárdenas, etc. From 1990 onwards, the museum began to acquire works by contemporary Andalusian artists such as Alcolea, Báez, Bermejo, etc. The collection also contains eleven original posters by Francisco Moreno Galván.
