Pamplona is the perfect place for sampling the famous “pinchos” (snacks) of the north of Spain. The bars in the historic quarter, namely on the streets San Nicolás, Comedia, San Gregorio, Estafeta and the Plaza del Castillo square, offer a vast array of these delicious gastronomic miniatures. The proximity of the various bars will enable you to try the “pinchos” at several establishments, in keeping with the local custom of touring the bars with friends at lunch time and in the evening. The people of Pamplona call this custom “chiquiteo”. Besides, if you visit the city in the spring you’ll catch the “Semana del Pincho”, when the locals and tourists alike fill the bars to sample a selection of the highly original “pinchos” specially prepared for the occasion.
