Spain can currently boast of being one of the number one forces in motorcycle racing. Spanish riders are used to frequently stepping up to the podium, and to finishing the world championship seasons among the top rankings. These sporting achievements are reflected in the commitment and support of the sport’s loyal fans. They make sure that the spectacle on the track is accompanied by a great atmosphere, both on the stands and outside the circuit. With good reason too, because Spain is lucky enough to host four World Championship Motorcycle Racing events. So, if you are looking to enjoy top-level competition and see the best riders in action, you’ll have plenty of opportunities in Spain. Why not extend your stay and make the most of the occasion to get to know some of our most beautiful towns and cities. You won’t regret it.

Thrills on two wheels

The first World Championship Motorcycle Racing event in the Spanish calendar is the Spanish Grand Prix. It’s one of the most popular races in the whole championship and takes place on a legendary track: the Jerez Circuit, in the province of Cadiz . Up to 200,000 spectators come together over the course of the three competition days, although the main event is, without doubt, the Sunday race, which often sees over 120,000 fans fill the stands. This is a unique weekend, where you can savour true passion for motorbikes.

Fans from all over Europe head south to Jerez to cheer on the participants in the Grand Prix and to have a good time inside and outside the circuit. Thanks to the good weather in Andalusia, during the event the streets of the town become one big open-air fiesta, where people share their interest in motorbikes, with improvised races and exhibitions. Also not to be missed are the beaches of Cadiz province, barely half an hour away.

The protagonist of the race

The Catalonia Grand Prix, the Grand Prix of the Region of Valencia and the Aragon Grand Prix are the three other events not to be missed in the Spanish world championship. The first is held at the Catalonia racetrack , in Montmeló, some 30 kilometres outside Barcelona. Don’t miss the chance to discover the cultural heritage and lively atmosphere of this cosmopolitan city. The second Grand Prix is the event which closes the world championship in the Ricardo Tormo racetrack in the Region of Valencia in Cheste. Take the chance to discover Valencia, just 28 kilometres away, a beautiful coastal city on the shores of the Mediterranean. Finally the Aragon Grand Prix is held in Alcañiz (Aragón), at the Ciudad del Motor racetrack, and has been part of the international circuit since 2010.

If, besides being a spectator, you want to take part in the action, then sign up for one of the racing days which are frequently arranged at Spain’s racetracks. This is a wonderful option to really feel the excitement and to put your bike through its paces. You can check dates, prices and conditions for participation on the website of each racetrack. Don’t think twice: if you like motorcycle racing, you’ll love Spain.
