- 自治州 :
A unique cultural attraction is waiting for you: the Prehistory Park in Teverga. Can you imagine one single cave that brings together the most important examples of European cave art? In Asturias, northern Spain, this cave exists. Take a trip back to the origins of art through reproductions of paintings that are between 10,000 and 35,000 years old. Come and join us on this journey back to the Palaeolithic period.
The Prehistory Park in Teverga is situated in an incomparable natural setting: the central mountains of Asturias, in the heart of Green Spain, only 40 kilometres from Oviedo.
The main attraction at the Prehistory Park is known as the "Cave of Caves", a natural environment that recreates the climate of a Palaeolithic cave. Everything is set up in such a way that you can put yourself in the shoes of a real archaeologist, observing from close up recreations of the Caverna de la Peña de Candamo and Tito Bustillo caves, both located in the Region of Asturias, as well as the famous “black room" of Niaux. This extraordinary project, the first of its kind, features a permanent exhibition of Europe's most important cave paintings.
Experience the unique magic of the first artistic symbols to be drawn by man. Information panels provide an insight into the famous horses of Chauvet cave, the bison on the roof of Altamira Cave (Cantabria) and the mysterious symbols of Llonín Cave. Videos, an exhibition of tools and implements, and even a simulated burial give visitors the chance to find out how Stone Age man lived and expressed himself. Described as the "most modern gallery of Prehistoric art", it will soon be equipped with a number of educational workshops revealing how materials were prepared 30,000 years ago and the techniques used to apply them.
Asturias' fascination with bygone times does not end here however. If you want to travel back even further, to the days when dinosaurs roamed the Earth, then head to the stretch of coastline running between the villages of Villaviciosa, Colunga and Ribadesella. Colunga is home to the Asturias Jurassic Museum (MUJA), and you can also take a look at the dinosaur prints on La Griega beach. Asturias is the place to go if you want to give your children an exciting educational experience. Come and see for yourself. Asturias, the ideal location for travelling back to prehistoric times.
