Diversity of fauna and flora
This is a place of incomparable scenic value. The flat surfaces of the plains stand in stark contrast to deep canyons carved out by the rivers. It also has a distinct and contrasting vegetation which includes everything from Mediterranean farm crops, somewhat uncommon at this latitude, and other ecosystems with a more Atlantic influence such as Pyrenean oak forests. Its fauna includes more than 200 different species of vertebrates.

The surrounding area has a wealth of cultural attractions and an important historic and artistic heritage, including rock art sites, remains of Roman mines and several shrines and monasteries scattered throughout the area.
The highest peaks have a predominance of broom and echinospartum. A little lower, forests of Pyrenean oak and some birch and other species of oak begin to make their appearance. As the altitude decreases to the south, the vegetation becomes much more Mediterranean, with numerous holm oaks, grapevines, and cherry and chestnut orchards, among others.
It is advisable to stop at the Visitor Centre to plan your visit. (Carretera Las Batuecas, s/n, La Alberca, Salamanca)
