The Maios Fiesta celebrates the arrival of good weather in Galicia.

The celebration is of Celtic origin and is related to the appearance of the first spring flowers. It is a traditional fiesta throughout Galicia and especially so in the cities of Pontevedra and Ourense.

Since 1970, Plaza de la Ferrería Square in Pontevedra has been the festive setting for a competition to elect the best maios – figures created out of branches and flowers. Alongside each of these figures a child sings a song while the rest of the group keep time.
