Murcia as a family: everything you have been looking for
Playa Mojón en Mazarrón
Come and discover Murcia, in southeastern Spain, with your family on routes through the countryside, visiting its towns and cities, or exploring its coastal cliffs. Any time of year is good to enjoy this region with the children. You are sure to find the activities you are looking for.
Murcia has many alternatives to give your children a pleasant surprise. Here we suggest various ideas to help you get the most out of your next trip.
Discover the countryside. Vías Verdes (disused, reconditioned railway lines) are a good bet for an exciting experience in direct contact with nature. This is an itinerary in the northwest of the region. You can do it on foot or by bike, following the old path of the railway tracks. It runs for 48 kilometres through stunning countryside, with good access and signposts, to Caravaca de la Cruz. The route starts in Baños de Mula. At the tourist office in Mula, less than ten kilometres from the departure point, they will give you all the information you need.
Very close to the start of the "vía verde" route you will find the Sierra Espuña Regional Reserve. Enjoy the perfect combination of sport, open air and countryside as a family. Make the most of the occasion to go kayaking in the Gebas Reservoir or, if you have older children, try paragliding in the Sierra de Muela Mountains.
Paradise coastline. Calm waters and white sand beaches. A paradise for sunbathing, swimming and, of course, to have a go at water sports. Learn how to sail or windsurf. The Mar Menor Marine Resort is an ideal location.
The 250 kilometres of coastline that run from the beach at El Mojón, in the north of the province, to La Carolina Beach, in the south, offer many more options. Explore them and you will discover coves and cliffs, as well as unusual landscapes such as the Bolnuevo Erosions in Mazarrón Port. They are formations of sandstone moulded by the water and wind that will amaze the little ones.
Enchanting landscapes. Discovering Murcia is also a trip back in time. Cartagena and Lorca offer an enjoyable, entertaining stroll through history. The first of the two will carry you back to Roman times. Alongside the city wall there is a Visitor Centre where the whole family can have fun learning about the Punic Wars.
The castle in Lorca is another option. In this case it is a passport back to the Middle Ages. This fortress marked the frontier between the Christian and Muslim kingdoms. Today it recreates those times through a range of activities: exhibitions, representations and interactive models. You will also have the chance to visit a dungeon. A great idea for young and old alike to have fun and learn together.
Land, sea and air. Present and past. For all tastes and ages. Murcia has the best plan for your upcoming family holidays. Have you decided on yours yet?
