Jerez, the tradition of the horse

Jerez Horse Fair
Horses are always the main attraction in Jerez de la Frontera, and especially during the Horse Fair. During the festivities the fairground is filled with parades featuring carriages and horses, as well as with thoroughbred horses who dance to the beat of flamenco music. The fun never stops, and the streets are alive with people who come to enjoy the music, the shows, and to dance the traditional Andalusian sevillanas. Pay a visit to the Paseo Real promenade if you don’t want to miss the celebrations, and drop in to the different marquees in the Fair where you can join in the locals’ fun and high spirits. In addition to the flamenco singing, the excitement and the elegance of the parades, there is a full programme of equestrian events where you can see the magnificent Andalusian horses in action.
You will always find this tradition alive in Jerez, because the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art schedules exhibitions all year round, and also offers the chance to book a show for private events. You can also see equestrian shows in many of the vineyards on the Jerez Wine and Brandy Routes, as well as tasting the wines. Other options include taking a tour of the city’s monuments in a horse-drawn carriage, going riding in the countryside on a thoroughbred, or receiving a private riding lesson.
