Spain: perfect waters for sea angling
A yacht sailing
The Mediterranean Sea, the Atlantic Ocean and the Cantabrian Sea are perfect for a day's fishing. If you like fishing out at sea, then the marine resorts to be found around the Spanish coastline will help you organise a tailor-made holiday.
Angling is the water-based sport with most affiliate members in Spain. Why? One reason is that Spain has almost 8,000 km of coastline. If you like sea fishing, then get on board and enjoy a few unforgettable days at sea. Spain's Marine Resorts make it easy – you'll find everything you need to enjoy this sporting activity.
One option available is to spend a day fishing by boat, accompanied by a professional with in-depth knowledge of the coast. Do you fancy it? If you're coming with your own boat, then we would recommend you check the practical advice for sailing in Spain. Bear in mind that you need a fishing license. You can apply for one at the corresponding administration. At Spain's Marine Resorts they will give you information on the steps to follow and the organisations you need to contact.
The Mediterranean Sea
There are up to nine marine resorts on Spain's Mediterranean coast offering angling boat trips. On the Costa Daurada you'll find the Salou-Cambrils-Mont Roig/Miami Platja Marine Resort. Here you can fish in shallow waters, with long, beautiful beaches as backdrop and a pleasant, year-round Mediterranean climate.
There are two marine resorts in the Balearic Islands where you can organise a day's fishing. On the island of Minorca, which has the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation, you'll find the Maó resort, with a natural harbour almost six kilometres in length; and in Ibiza, World Heritage for its biodiversity, is the Santa Eulalia Marine Resort. On the coast, paradise coves, leisure activities and a long tradition of maritime life all await you.
On the Mediterranean coast of the Region of Valencia there are three marine resorts offering this kind of fishing: Benicarló-Peñíscola, Marina Alta and Bahía de Altea , which makes the Region of Valencia an ideal destination for sports fishing from boats.
Mediterranean fishing options are completed at the Mar Menor (Murcia) and Bahía de Almería marine resorts. The first is set on the Mar Menor, an inland sea with high salt content and a sandy bed. In Almería, special mention should be made of the Cabo de Gata Nature Reserve, which has the UNESCO Biosphere Reserve designation.
The Atlantic Ocean
There are two marine resorts in Spain offering sea angling by boat in the Atlantic. In southern Spain, in the province of Huelva, on the Costa de la Luz, you'll find the Isla Cristina Resort. In the north, in the province of Pontevedra, the Rías Baixas Resort.
Isla Cristina has crystal clear waters and a coastline with unspoilt beaches with fine, golden sand. This part of the coast also has marshland with valuable flora and fauna.
In the Rías Baixas region, meanwhile, you will find many different harbours between the Arousa Estuary and Sanxenxo that make this an ideal part of northern Spain for water sports.
The Cantabrian Sea
Another option for fishing is the north of Spain, where you will find the Gijón Costa Verde Marine Resort, situated in Gijón, Region of Asturias. The cold waters of the Cantabrian Sea and its landscapes of cliffs and coves are defining characteristics of this area.
