The main entrance to the walled enclosure of Ibiza
It is the main entrance to the walled enclosure of the old town of Ibiza. It is situated between the bastions of Sant Joan and Santa Llúcia, and was built between 1584 and 1585. In 1888, the moat in front of the doorway was crossed by slats of wood, which were later replaced by a drawbridge and, in the early 20th century, by a permanent bridge. The gateway is crowned by the imperial coat of arms and crown. On both sides of the gateway there are replicas of the original statues, which are kept in the Archaeological Museum.
