On the southern side of the island of Gran Canary, in the San Bartolomé de Tirajana area, is the Necropolis of Arteara, declared to be a Historic-Artistic Heritage Site.
The Necropolis of Arteara is a major series of archaeological finds situated in the Fataga ravine, in the district of San Bartolomé de Tirajana, on the southern side of the island of Gran Canary.
It is a large pre-Hispanic cemetery which contains around 2,000 burial mounds, raised using basalt stones which date from some 2,000 years ago. Declared to be a Historic-Artistic Heritage Site, the collection of graves is overlooked by a central, larger mound, which is believed to be the tomb of the king.
