Discovering inland Spain
Imagine your children's faces when you tell them that you're going in search of dinosaur prints, riding an attraction in an amusement park, watching bears or going down a mine in a mining cart? This year you won't need to persuade them to come on holiday with you. Come and enjoy a holiday in inland Spain with the whole family and have fun with the kids!
Bring your family to discover the oldest inhabitants of La Rioja : the dinosaurs. And we're not kidding. Thousands of years ago these animals left numerous footprints all over this part of Spain.
You can visit some of the multitude of ichnite (dinosaur tracks) sites in La Rioja (the best-known are those of Enciso, Munilla, Igea and Cornago), and see for yourself. Along your way you'll also find life-size reproductions of dinosaurs... so don't forget your camera!
And to learn more about this world, why not arrange a visit to the La Rioja Palaeontological Visitor Centre? And what about leaving a day for the El Barranco Perdido paleo-adventure park?
Visits to the ichnite sites are designed to be done at your own pace (they are outdoors, and most are easy to access; some have walkways and explanatory panels). The best idea is to go by car and then to explore the site on foot. Many of these sites also have signposted routes.
If you would like to hire the services of a specialised guide, the best idea is to ask at the tourist offices in the area or at the La Rioja Palaeontological Visitor Centre. You can also find them at La Rioja Tourist Board .
