The area of Valladolid in Castile-León is known around the world for its famous wines; if you like the world of the vineyard, here’s your spot. Here you will find wines from the five Designation of Origin regions: Ribera del Duero, Rueda, Cigales, Toro and Tierra de León, with red, white and rosé wines. Sounds enticing, no?
Swirl the glass gently, smell the aromas from the wine, perceive the notes of flavour on the palate... Savouring a good wine is always a marvellous experience and even more so in Valladolid, where you will find many towns with historic and vanguard wineries to enjoy this activity. Each Designation of Origin has its own route which you will find on the following official website.
On each of the routes you will be able to visit restaurants that perfectly combine the dishes on their menus with local wines, stay in hotels or rural houses offering special stays linked to the world of the vineyard and relax in a wine-spa session. Would you like more? You can also learn what a day of winemaking is like, discover a cooperage where barrels are made or have fun at festivals dedicated to gastronomy. Undoubtedly a full enotourism programme you won’t be able to resist.
As a good wine-lover, one of the unmissable trips is to the Provincial Wine Museum located in spectacular Peñafiel Castle. You will be charmed for different reasons: you will be in a 9th-century monument with marvellous views and on a walk through the rooms get to know all the stages of the grape before becoming any one of the exquisite Designations of Origin. In addition, the museum organises cultural activities related to oenology such as conferences, organised stays, thematic days, concerts... Don’t miss the tasting led by a professional oenologist at the museum. Afterwards, you can boast of your knowledge to your friends.
One last piece of advice. Take back some of the best wines and gourmet or artisanal products from the area. You will definitely want more!
