Spain’s Top 5 Beach Destinations to Escape the Winter!

Pack Your Cruise Collection! Spain’s Top 5 Beach Destinations to Escape the Winter!

Are you as sick of winter as we are? Well, we’ve got wonderful news! You don’t have to wait until the warm weather comes to you; you can go to it! So, pack up your shades and favorite cruise collection pieces, because these 5 warm and sunny Spanish beach destinations are waiting for you! 1)  Canary Islands: Didn’t think you’d need your suntan lotion until the summer? Think again! This balmy getaway is sunny year-round. Choose one of the seven islands that fit your summer needs the best; from the white sand beaches of Tenerife, to the volcanic-meets-ocean landscape in Lanzarote. Discover the cliffy-coves of El Hierro, or the dunes of Gran Canaria. Whatever sunny adventure you’re seeking, Canary Islands has got it! 2)  Balearic Islands: Head into the depths of the Mediterranean and find these exotic islands waiting. Relax and find your inner zen at Minorca or Formentera, where you can lose yourself on the beautiful sand beaches, or wander into the small streets of fishing villages. Go to Majorca and enjoy the contrasting landscape of mountain meets oceanfront, with the Sierra de Tramontana mountains as a backdrop. Or, take advantage of Ibiza’s low tourist season, and get to see the beautiful island like a local! Soak in the vibrant winter sun, eat tapas at a café along the coast, and get to know the artsy side of Ibiza, at one of the many island art galleries. 3)  Costa Del Sol: With 300 days of sun a year, you’re sure to get great weather! Head to Malaga, the capital, and enjoy freshly fried fish right on the beach, at one of the typical chiringuito beach restaurants. Or, experience the beautiful outdoors at the Nature Reserve Sierra de las Nieves. Feeling adventurous? Go caving or canyoning! Or, explore one of Europe’s most unique caves. The Tesoro Cave, with its peculiar form due to years of erosion, is one of three caves in the world that has been formed by the rise and fall of the sea’s tide. Not to mention, the many historical legends about treasure hidden inside! Did you know that Malaga is the birthplace of Picasso? After a day of soaking in the sun, get in some culture at the Picasso Museum. Or, hop on over to one of the beautiful Andalusian villages in the area, like charming Ronda or coastal Marbella, to name a few. 4)  Costa Blanca: The southernmost tip of Costa Blanca awaits you, characterized by its Mediterranean cuisine of paella, tourist resorts and blue waters. Visit the seaside city of Torrevieja, or the relaxing southernmost town of Pilar de la Horadada. 5)  Cabo de Gata: Hop on a bike, ride the back of a horse, or go the old-fashioned route and put on your walking shoes, because the UNESCO Cabo de Gata-Nijar Biosphere Reserve is waiting to be explored! See the incredible volcanic sierra by the sea and venture into its southern coastal salt marshes, or simply admire its many cliffs, coves and beaches. For water sport lovers, Almería is the perfect destination to go scuba-diving, windsurfing, kayaking…you name it, they’ve got it! Or, walk along the beautiful marina and admire the boats swaying in the balmy wind. So, say “adios” to winter, because the shining Spanish sun is waiting! But whatever you do, don’t forget to pack your best cruise wear! We imagine it looks a lot better “collecting” sun than dust ;) Wouldn’t you agree? Written by: Casie Tennin Frebruary 24, 2016
