GR 88: Province of Segovia
The GR path in the Province of Segovia is called the GR 88 in memory of the repopulation of the city, which celebrated its 800th anniversary in the year that the path was listed in the National Register of the Spanish Mountaineering Federation.
It joins the GR 10 in Guadalajara along the El Cardoso path in Cerezo and in Ávila along the El Hornillo mountain pass in El Espinar.
Three essential areas can be differentiated along the route of this path.The first can be called La Mesta, through La Cañada de la Vera de la Sierra to Sotosalbos. Leaving El Espinar is goes to Otero de Herreros through the Port of El Pasapán, at the very foot of the Mujer Muerta, Revenga, Venta de Santillana or Caserío de Iturbieta (shearings), to turn towards Segovia and continue towards the shearings of Cabanillas before rejoining the Royal Cattle track. In Sotosalbos the route combines with what are called Romanesque and castles: Sotosalbos, Pelayos, Santiuste Pedraza, the Chapel of Las Vegas en Requijada, Pedraza, among juniper groves, crossing the river Cega or along the Barrio de La Velilla, Orejana (Arenal), Valleruela, Condado de Castilnovo and the Valley of El Caslilla to Sepúlveda, through Duratón and El Sotillo before rejoining cattle tracks, paths and ranges in a third area through Mansilla to reach the localities of Los Cerezos - Arriba and Abajo - and Santo Tomé del Puerto, where the El Cardoso path leads to Guadalajara.
