Description

The Bilbao Museum of Fine Arts offers a journey to discover the Japanese art in its collection and highlights the influence of Oriental art on the West.

The exhibition features some 200 artworks that connect Japanese art with Western art in the 19th century, and the abstraction and informalism of the second half of the 20th century. Some of the items on display include paintings, prints, ceramic items for the tea ceremony and typical Japanese utensils such as the "tsuba" (the guard of a Japanese sword blade), "inrô" (a small box with several compartments, attached to the sash on a kimono), and "suzuribako" (writing box).
