Description

On the 30th anniversary of Miró's death, Burgos Cathedral is holding an exhibition featuring 30 of the Catalan artist's works, which belong to the Reina Sofía Museum's collection.

It focuses on Joan Miró's work during the last 20 years of his life, one of the most prolific periods of his career. Visitors can enjoy the 30 selected artworks (14 paintings made between 1963 and 1977, and 16 sculptures, dating from 1967-1981), and observe how the exhibition explores the influences of the new American avant-garde movements and the dialogues that are established between sculpture and painting. It is a good chance to recognise Miró's personal language. During the last years of his life he focused on essential forms and sought the true meaning of art and the role of the artist in society. The exhibition also includes a short film dedicated to the painter by Catalan producer Pere Portabella.
