This is one of the most traditional festivals celebrated in Potes, Cantabria (in northern Spain, in the heart of the Picos de Europa mountains), and every year attracts thousands of people who come to enjoy this typical liqueur produced using time-honoured methods.
It was first celebrated in 1984, and today takes place on the second weekend in November. During the festival, visitors can experience the spectacle of a public distillation of "orujo", before sampling it in the streets of the town.
In addition to "orujo", there are numerous other local products and dishes available to stry, such as "cocido lebaniego" (typical chickpea stew from Liébana), "borono" (a kind of black pudding) with apple, Picón cheese… And all this is accompanied by a lively programme of musical events, talks and an atmosphere of traditional folklore.
