Feel at one with the birds on the island of Formentera
If you love nature and birdwatching, Formentera is definitely the place for you. It is the smallest of the inhabited Balearic Islands and has around 80 km of coastline which can be easily toured by bike. And whether you choose to go on foot or on two wheels, you’ll discover a practically unspoiled natural environment as you travel deep into the interior along its green routes or through its pine forests. You’ll experience secluded places where you’ll be able to feel fully at one with the landscape: no pollution, no noise, just you alone in this natural setting, and with all the time in the world to study every detail of the birds.
Formentera is particularly attractive for birdwatching as it is home to wetlands (Estany des Peix and Estany Pudent), where over 200 species of birds either live or make a stop on their migratory route. Both these wetland sites lie within the Ses Salines nature reserve of Ibiza and Formentera. Things to remember: You can find recommended itineraries and a guide to the birds which live on the island on the website www.formenterabirding.com
