Tapa with anchovies
In Cadiz, in the south of Spain, you’ll be able to sample fresh fish in the best possible way: almost straight out of the sea and listening to the sound of the waves. The typical way to do this in Cadiz is to drop in at one of the numerous bars specialising in "pescaíto frito" (assorted fried fish), for example like one of the places in the Plaza de las Flores square or along the seafront, and order a platter of marinated dogfish, fried cuttlefish and baby squid. Order a takeaway and they’ll put it in a carton for you so that you go and eat it on the beach. The other fish and seafood delicacies that you'll find in the city are roasted mackerel and "tortillitas de camarones" (tiny crustaceans mixed with a dough of wheat and then fried). The bars around Calle de la Palma street and Plaza de Pericón square are particularly famous, serving delicious freshly caught mackerel and “piriñaca” (the local salad comprising tomato, pepper, onion and olive oil).
