The Aragonese Pyrenees by mountain bike

 

From March to November you can explore the Aragonese Pyrenees on a mountain bike in the ski resorts of Formigal, Cerler, Panticosa, Javalambre, Valdelinares and the surrounding areas, where different routes have been laid out so people can enjoy cycle touring in the seasons when there is no snow.

Spring and autumn routes

These routes remain open between March and June, and between September and November. They are:

- Giro del Montsec: you’ll need two or three days to cover the 111 kilometres. On the way you’ll find three mountain passes, spectacular views and several uninhabited villages.
- Giro de Isabana: these 110 kilometres have a difference in height of approximately 3,000 metres, so it’s advisable to be in fairly good shape. The route also has cultural attractions, as it takes in the geological heritage of Ribagorza. What’s more, you’ll find abandoned farmhouses along the route. It can be done in two or three days.
- Gran Tour Ribagorza: this links the two previous routes, and offers a total of 240 kilometres which should be done over a period of between two and five days. The most interesting points are the Morrón de Güel peak (1,406 metres) and the views of the Sierra de Sis mountains.

Summer routes

These remain open between May and October. They are:

- Turbón Tour: the more or less 110 kilometres of this route take place on paths, with connecting stretches on local roads and trails. It runs through the Ribagorza region around the Turbón massif, and offers a thrilling sporting challenge. This route can be completed in two days.
- Pyrenees Epic Trail: this is the most difficult route, as it has hair-raising descents and steep climbs in the heart of the Pyrenean mountains. There are a total of 235 kilometres through the regions of Ribagorza and Sobrarbe, and the recommended duration is between three and five days.
- Tena Xtrem Pro/Lite: this covers around 110 kilometres. It has two variants: the Pro, an extremely difficult route which is a challenge even for experts; and the Lite, the shorter route of the Tena, suitable for proficient cyclists.
