Five exhibition halls, a project room, an assembly hall, an educational workshop, a library and a shopping area are the principal components of the Castile-Leon Museum of Contemporary Art (MUSAC), an original, cuboid building, designed by architects Emilio Tuñón and Luis Moreno. This is a large area devoted to culture covering more than 21,000 sq. metres. It aims to emphasise common elements in art and architecture through contemporary expression. Halls, mezzanines and courtyards take on special importance in this building, whose interior is made up of white concrete, while the multicolour façade is reminiscent of the stained glass windows of León Cathedral.

This large exhibition area is designed to bring the diverse selection of works into close contact with the present, involving visitors completely and bringing about a kind of dialogue with the creations themselves. The MUSAC also aims to highlight the question marks and contradictions that arise every day in the world of art. For this reason the centre is involved in various ground-breaking projects, and supports an interdisciplinary approach to artistic creation.
