It is located in one of the most important lake areas in the Iberian Peninsula. The system of lagoons, which take up an area of 25 km, was declared a Nature Reserve.

In the vicinity of the lagoons, there are many hotels and recreational facilities. Water sports and activities are allowed in the area. The town of Ruidera is located between Rey lagoons and Morenilla cave, next to Puente del Rey (King's Bridge) and Casa del Rey (King's House). In the vicinity of Rey lagoon we find the remains of an old gunpowder factory, built by Juan de Villanueva, and commissioned by Charles III.
