As everyone knows, Donostia-San Sebastián is the home of great cuisine. In fact, in this city in the north of Spain you’ll find restaurants run by some of the grand masters of the new Spanish cuisine. Seated at your table, laden with a selection of unusual but exquisite dishes, you’ll soon discover that its international reputation is well deserved. This is cuisine with its own name: Juan Mari Arzak and his restaurant Arzak; Pedro Subijana and his restaurant Akelarre on Mount Igueldo overlooking the Bay of Biscay; and Martín Berasategui and his restaurant at the Kursaal, with views over the famous Zurriola Bridge. We could recommend a whole host of other places as well, such as the Kokotxa or the Miramón Arbelaitz.
You can also enjoy the art of Basque chefs in a variety of places near San Sebastián. The list is long but includes, among others, Martín Berasetegui’s famous restaurant in Lasarte-Oria, 10 kilometres from the city.
