The WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) festival emerged as a project by the British singer Peter Gabriel to publicise musical rhythms from different parts of the world.

It has been held in Cáceres since 1992, and is an intercultural event to which admission is free. In addition to musical performances by different bands and soloists, there are other activities such as workshops, street entertainmnt, craft fairs and the fusion of different cultures.
