La Orotava is a historic town which sits in a beautiful valley of banana plantations.
Its old centre has been declared to be of National Historic-Artistic Interest. Some of the most outstanding buildings and monuments in the historic quarter are the parish church of Nuestra Señora de la Concepción and the Casas de los Balcones, a gem of popular island architecture which currently house the Eladio Machado handicrafts centre and the centre of archives and investigation of the handicrafts of Spain and America.
La Orotava also has Hijuela del Botánico, - a garden which contains tropical plants from South America, Central Africa and Australia-, the Victoria gardens, and wonderful beaches of black sand.
The mountains of La Orotava provide opportunities for excursions and to do sports which bring you into contact with nature.
