This is the highest and most mountainous municipality of the province of Cádiz, as well as the rainiest of the Iberian Peninsula. Its entirety is included in the Natural Reserve of the Sierra Grazalema mountain range, and thus today it is a tourist destination in tune with its beautiful natural surroundings. Its historic quarter has the Property of Cultural Interest designation.
Its urban complex stands out, including alleys, squares, hidden spots, and spectacular lookout points of the mountain range. It is very well preserved and restored, and once earned the “National Tourism Award for the Beautification and Improvement of Spanish Towns”. It is one of the best representatives of the so-called Andalusian White Towns.
As well as the traditional scene of whitewashed houses, Grazalema offers other tourist attractions for rural and nature tourism; traditional crafts (there is a Traditional Textile Museum) and buildings such as the Nuestra Señora de la Aurora Church (18th century) and the Encaminación Parish (17th-19th centuries).
