Gáldar fue una antigua capital aborigen de la isla.
Gáldar was the old aboriginal capital of the island.Gáldar sits at the foot of a bare volcano, and the population mainly works in agriculture. The town grows tomatoes, potatoes, corn and bananas, and is the largest producer in Gran Canary of this last crop. Another traditional activity is stockbreeding, and one of the most outstanding gastronomic products is the cheese made from sheep's milk.
For archaeology lovers, Gáldar provides several places of interest, such as the Painted Cave, with the finest examples of aboriginal cave painting in the Canaries.
