The town of Algodonales, one of the famous white towns of Cadiz, is on the route from the north to the Nature Reserve of the Sierra de Grazalema mountains. Its old town has been declared Property of Cultural Interest.

Algodonales is set among olive groves and fruit and vegetable fields bathed by the Guadalete River and close to the reservoir of Zahara. The Sierra de Líjar mountains lie nearby. It narrow winding streets follow the natural paths once taken by rainwater. Among its most important buildings and monuments is the Neoclassical parish church of Santa Ana (consecrated in 1784) and the sites evoking traditional life such as the picturesque fountains and public washing areas, most of them constructed more than a century ago.
