Come and enjoy football in Madrid, one of the few cities with two important teams, amongst others, which are present in international championships: Real Madrid and Atlético de Madrid.
Real Madrid has been chosen as the best club of the 20th century, and Atlético de Madrid won the UEFA Europa League 2010 and 2011. So, if you like football and you're coming to Madrid, we have a perfect plan for you to enjoy your day in the city: first, a walk round the trophy rooms; then, discover the main places where they celebrate; and finally, watch a match in the stadium. Before the match Real Madrid offers the "Tour Bernabéu", which includes a ticket to the Santiago Bernabéu stadium and its trophy display (including the 9 European Cups), a trip round the field, the changing rooms, the players' tunnel, the bench and the technical area, so you can feel like one of the players. The tour also includes visits to the press room, the president's box and the shop. The Santiago Bernabéu stadium also has three restaurants that are full of Real Madrid items and overlook the field. Atlético de Madrid offers tourist packages that include guided tours round the most emblematic corners of its stadium, the Vicente Calderón, and its museum. To finish off the route, you'll be able to taste the menus in the restaurant or visit the shop. Events for celebrations If you want to discover the places where Madrid fans celebrate the titles, you must go to the Paseo del Prado. Real Madrid celebrates its triumphs round the Cibeles fountain, and Atlético de Madrid celebrates round the Neptuno fountain. Thousands of fans come and celebrate with the football stars, who usually arrive by bus, and the place turns into a real party. This part of the city also offers a wide range of possibilities - Buen Retiro Park and the famous art triangle (Prado Museum, Thyssen-Bornemisza Museum and Reina Sofía Art Centre) Exciting matches The most exciting moment of the day comes at the end: the match itself. We recommend you to come with enough time in advance, to enjoy when the teams enter the field and to hear the chants before the match. At the Santiago Bernabéu stadium you'll be impressed by its size and the incredible atmosphere when the seats are packed. Atlético de Madrid fans are famous in Spain because they are so lively, so you are sure to have a great time at the stadium. In the city of Madrid there is also another very popular team: Rayo Vallecano. And in nearby towns we can find Getafe CF, which also plays in the Spanish premier league. Things to remember: You can buy the tickets for the matches and book your tour on the clubs' official websites: www.realmadrid.com and www.clubatleticodemadrid.com On days when there is a match on, the visits to the museums and the stadiums may only be available until a certain time before the match starts. From September to June there are usually Spanish Football League matches every weekend. And there are also international championships and the King's Cup on Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays throughout the season.
