Covadonga Lakes, a legendary paradise

Separated by the fell of the Picota, Enol and Ercina are two of the lakes in this, one of the most famous and mythical corners in Asturias. Located within the Picos de Europa National Park and a mere 27 kilometres from the town of Cangas de Onis, we invite you to get to know the majestic landscape surrounding the Covadonga Lakes. The impressive mountain peaks surrounding the lakes and the beautiful reflections in the waters will be one of the most unforgettable things about your stay. Its beauty is captivating at all times of year. Take a stroll through the snows of winter, or the beautiful, striking colours of spring, summer and autumn.
Beginning at the Covadonga sanctuary, access to the lakes is an equally remarkable experience. The road to the lakes has 12 kilometres of twisting bends and curves which slowly reveal the marvellous natural landscape. Take your time to go up this fabulous road, a small taste of the wonders to come. Half way to the lakes you will come across the Mirador de la Reina where you will be able to see the indescribable views which will accompany you to the end of the road.
Lake Enol is the first lake you come to, at a height of 1,070 metres above sea level. Cows, horses and sheep graze calmly on the endless green pastures around the lake, taking no notice of the visitors to this idyllic spot. Enjoy the fascinating countryside as you continue on up to a height of 1,108 metres above seal level where lake Ercina awaits you with a spectacular range of colours: due to the plants in the water and the changes in light, the waters of the lake change colour, going from light green to dark green with, on occasion, splashes of yellow or red.
