The Laboral, a centre for art, culture and business

The Laboral Culture Centre is a complex covering 130,000 square metres, designed to be an artistic and cultural venue. Located in the Region of Asturias, in northern Spain, it offers modern surroundings, born from the reinvention of a spectacular classicist construction built more than 50 years ago, now an example of innovation applied to culture.

This is the Laboral Culture Centre, a complex that was built in 1948 and which has been reinvented to promote artistic and industrial creation. A space for art

The Laboral Theatre has capacity for 2,000 people and boasts the latest, large-scale technology, such as virtual sound and a stage area suitable for the most ambitions representations.

Business centre

The Laboral is also an ideal setting for business meetings and congresses. Both the Paraninfo Auditorium and the Theatre are suitable for such events. The Theatre's Painting Room is especially charming. It has capacity for more than 300 people and a huge mural in fresco. There is also a Café with direct access to the Paraninfo area. It has a large room reserved for cocktail receptions and lunches.

Its geographical location, barely 40 kilometres from Asturias airport, and the excellent bus services operating to centre of Gijón are additional advantages for the Laboral as a business centre.

Architectural delights

The majesty and size of its buildings will not leave you indifferent. The Centre is set around a large square with views of some of the complex's most emblematic places: the Theatre, the Tower and the Church.

The Tower is 130 metres tall, and means the Laboral can be seen from afar. It has a viewpoint with access by lift, offering stunning views of the site itself and of Gijón, flanked by the sea and the surrounding mountains.

Constant reinvention

The Laboral Culture Centre was inaugurated in 2007, but it is being constantly reinvented. Besides the Theatre, the Paraninfo Auditorium, the Art and Cultural Creation Centre or the Tower, here you will also find the Upper School of Dramatic Art, the Asturias Region Broadcasting Company, a library, and several faculties of Oviedo University. In this way, the Laboral consolidates itself as northern Spain's only centre bringing together modernity, business and culture in the same complex.
