Barcelona. Modern, cosmopolitan, vibrant city which faces the sea. Seaside town located 35 kms south of Barcelona. Modern Sitges, preserving important references from the middle Ages and the old farmers’ and fishermen’s town, offers visitors an impressive architectural and cultural heritage. Sitges is renowned worldwide for its Film Festival and Carnival. A popular gay district is the San Bonaventura’s Street. Madrid. Capital city of Spain. It is a Cosmopolitan city characterised by its intense cultural and artistic activity as well as a vibrant nightlife. In Chueca neighbourhood you can find a gay village located just north of the downtown core old city, centred on the Plaza de Chueca and Chueca metro Station. Chueca has become more in fashion and trade. There are many new shops, cafes and discotheques, as well as other business oriented to the gay community. In the early 90's the homosexual community established itself here and began rehabilitating houses and opening businesses, turning it into the gay Area of Madrid. Its gay and lesbian pride festivals, held at the end of June, are famous. Nevertheless Chueca has become a quite popular spot for people of all types. Also known as a “Miniature Continnet” due to the different climates and variety of landscapes found. The resorts of Playa del Inglés in Maspalomas in the eastern part of the southern coast are popular destinations for the Gay Community. Nearby , in the Dunes of Maspalomas, is located the famous Playa de Maspalomas which has a designated gay area. Playa del Inglés is a popular destination with bars, restaurants and businesses centred primarily in the Yumbo Centrum shopping centre. A Big part of the Yumbo’s uniqueness is due to the "scene". The nicest bars, with the most creative ideas and extensive cocktail menus, are mainly managed by homosexuals. The liberal atmosphere is the basis of the special charm of the YUMBO. Megalithic, Roman, Vandal, Byzantine and Moslem civilisations, the medieval Christian conquest of 1235 and events up to our time have all left their mark. Visits to museums, monuments and archaeological remains serve to better understand and enjoy the mosaic of cultures that have passed through these lands.
