Desayuno (breakfast)

The first meal of the day, where the most essential items are coffee, milk, and pastries, churros or porras. It is usually complete with cheese, sausages, fruit, and orange juice. Different regions have different special items for breakfast, such as toast with olive oil in Andalusia, ensaimada in the Balearic Islands and gofio in the Canary Islands.


Digestivos (digestif)

These are liqueurs, some of which originated at the convents and monasteries ( like Benedictine, Chartreuse, spirits of Monserrat, Valvanera liqueur, etc.), while others come from popular tradition like is the case of Catalan ratafía, Cuenca's resolí, herb liqueurs, coffee liqueur, etc. In general, these liqueurs are sweet, with high alcoholic content, and are taken at the end of a meal as a digestif.
