It is an 18-hole, par 71 course, 6,122 metres long. The first part of the course has been remodelled but preserves the oak, ash and holm oak forests. Tees, greens and bunkers have been formed, and lakes have been created on holes 1, 2 and 4. The second part of the course is more open, and surrounded by the peaks of the Sierra de Guadarrama mountains, which give the area its peculiar microclimate. "La Herrería" is 45 km from Madrid and just 400 metres from the Royal Monastery of San Lorenzo de El Escorial, one of the most visited monuments in Spain.
